Hugo Mojica

I was born to modest parents, Hugo R. and Sonia Mojica. As most families seeking the American dream of hope and opportunity, they had immigrated to Houston, Texas, during the early 1970s. Not knowing the language became a challenge but not one that they could not overcome. Through hard work and determination, Hugo Sr. was able to provide for his children a better opportunity to succeed in life.

I was raised and attended public schools on the Northside. I am a proud graduate of Janowski Elementary, Burbank Middle School and Jefferson Davis High School. While at Jeff Davis, I excelled

in all my courses and graduated in the top 5% of my class. After graduation, I enrolled at Houston Community College where I continued to excel and later transferred to the University of Houston Main Campus. Several years later, through hard work and perseverance, I was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Houston, becoming the first in my family to earn a college degree.

Recognizing the importance of education and wanting to improve my leadership skills, I enrolled in graduate school. I earned a Master of Arts in International Administration and a Master of Public Administration.

I have taken every opportunity afforded me to enhance my skills and knowledge in the decision-making process of government. I have dedicated my life to giving back to the community by working for the residents of Houston. My knowledge and service to the community have been enhanced by working for several elected officials within the City of Houston, particularly those in District H.

I have over ten years of government experience including working for a Congressman, two Council Members, and a County Commissioner. Currently, I work for the Brilliant Lecture Series, a local nonprofit organization.

I am an active member of several local community organizations, including the University of Houston Alumni Association, Jefferson Davis Hispanic Alumni Association, and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
